The reason behind the creation of this blog is to attempt to incorporate it into my classroom at some point. In my opinion, they truly support active learning. I've also thought about "buddying up" with another teacher in another school and linking our students to widen the circle. What I fear, however, is the ability to monitor the material. How would a teacher be able to monitor the information 24-7?
I find myself wondering, however, are wikis and blogs suitable substitutes for collaborative learning in the classroom?

Erin,

Good questions you are pondering....

There's something at the core of your post on which I want to comment. You state that "The reason behind the creation of this blog is to attempt to incorporate it into my classroom at some point."

I don't want to splash my opinion all over your blog or your classmates blogs, but I want to quietly say... I never said that Blogs should be incorporated into the classroom. I said to think about how they could be incorporated into your profession. There's a big difference, at least in my opinion.

Do you know what I mean?

I understand what Erin means in her blog. Being unfamiliar with blogs myself, I'm still searching for ways in which they can be incorporated into the classroom. I'm not sure if I can think of a reason to use them that could not be accomplished by the tools we have out there already. Maybe though this blogging journey I'll figure it out.

I love the pics on your blog. They do make it more personal and fun. I've had the same thoughts with blogs. I know that blogs would not be appropriate to use with my students. They are in elementary school and too young for it to be possible for the most part. I do think that blogs could be used to share information with teachers though. I will be traveling between buildings and I'm going to try to create a blog so that every teacher can get in touch with me.
